The Clinical Application of Electroencephalography
نویسنده
چکیده
THE brain, like the heart, produces electrical waves during life. Caton, an English physiologist, was the first to measure these electrical potentials in the exposed brain of the rabbit (1875).1 It was not until 1929, however, that Hans Berger,2 a German psychiatrist at J ena, picked up electrical waves from the human brain by means of needle electrodes inserted into the scalp, and recorded them on bromide paper with a vacuum tube amplifier and a string galvanometer. Since that time a large group of workers have developed this new field in body current physiology--called electroencephalography-to a point where it is used as a diagnostic method in many hospitals in this country. The names of Berger and Kornmuller in Germany; Adrian and WaIters in England; and Gerard, Jasper, Gibbs, Davis, and Loomis in the United States are only a part of the large list of pioneer workers in this field. The reader is referred to the new and excellent Atlas by Gibbs3 and the extensive and complete review of this field by Davis4 and Jasper5 for details not covered in this article.

متن کاملApplication of Electroencephalography (EEG) in Ergonomics: A systematic review study
Background and Objectives: Electroencephalography is one of the non-invasive and relatively inexpensive methods that can be used to evaluate neurophysiology and cognitive functions. This systematic review study was performed with the aim of using electroencephalography (EEG) in ergonomics. Methods: In this review study, all articles published in Persian and English on the application of elec...
متن کاملThe Effects of Sodium Valproate in Improving Developmental Delay in Seizure-Free Children with Abnormal Electroencephalography
Background: Developmental delay is one of the most common problems of children referred to pediatric neurology clinics. While there are reports on rehabilitation and its effects, limited studies are available to delineate pharmacotherapy of such children. Because many children with developmental delay have abnormal findings in electroencephalography, we aimed to treat a group of these children,...
متن کاملThe Effect of Quantitative Electroencephalography-Based Neurofeedback Therapy on Anxiety, Depression, and Emotion Regulation in People with Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Introduction: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most common anxiety disorders that has significant adverse effects on social functioning, occupational/academic performance, and daily living. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG)-based Neurofeedback (NFB) therapy on anxiety, depression, and emotion regulation of people with GAD. Met...
متن کاملClassifying the Epilepsy Based on the Phase Space Sorted With the Radial Poincaré Sections in Electroencephalography
Background: Epilepsy is a brain disorder that changes the basin geometry of the oscillation of trajectories in the phase space. Nevertheless, recent studies on epilepsy often used the statistical characteristics of this space to diagnose epileptic seizures. Objectives: We evaluated changes caused by the seizures on the mentioned basin by focusing on phase space sorted by Poincaré sections. Ma...
متن کاملA Unique Approach of Noise Elimination from Electroencephalography Signals between Normal and Meditation State
In this paper, unique approach is presented for the electroencephalography (EEG) signals analysis. This is based on Eigen values distribution of a matrix which is called as scaled Hankel matrix. This gives us a way to find out the number of Eigen values essential for noise reduction and extraction of signal in singular spectrum analysis. This paper gives us an approach to classify the EEG signa...
